STDs: Information about Hepatitis
Hepatitis is a disease that sometimes pops up in the news, as more people come to terms with the disease and its facets. Even celebrities have had to deal with hepatitis, as the disease has no bias for or against popularity. There are three different types of hepatitis, and all three must be taken seriously. However, there are some major differences between the three different types, though if a person suspects he has been infected with the disease, he should seek treatment immediately. Although the different types may vary in severity, it is still necessary to start a course of treatment early to prevent any further complications. More Information about Hepatitis The three types of hepatitis are hepatitis A, B, and C. All three range in severity and symptoms, as well as methods of transmission. Hepatitis A is generally transmitted through contamination of water or food from an infected person’s feces. This is generally a larger concern in areas lacking sanitation or other safety standards, so people who are traveling abroad to a third world country, for example, should be careful not to consume any products that may be contaminated. Hepatitis A may have a sudden onset of symptoms but does not generally last long and does usually successfully resolve. Hepatitis B is also inflammation of the liver, and this type of the disease can cause chronic liver damage. Hepatitis B can lead to a chronic complication –cirrhosis of the liver- as well as to cancer. It is estimated that over 5,000 people die each year from hepatitis B. The disease can be transmitted through blood, sexual fluid, and dirty needles. Rarely, it may be transferred through saliva. Symptoms can include dark urine, a rash, and loss of appetite. Hepatitis C is the most common form of hepatitis, and it is estimated to affect over four million people across the world. It is primarily transferred through blood but does not usually have many symptoms, if any at all. It can also develop as an acute or chronic illness. There are certain tests approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the testing of hepatitis. People who suspect they have the disease should contact their doctor to schedule an appointment. The doctor can administer the correct test and make sure the proper course of treatment is given. info@treatyourstd.com |
